Product Description
Keurig Special Edition B-60 is a perfect appliance for making single cups of hot beverages. It’s so simple and easy! No Grinding, No Clean Up and No Hassle! It uses pre-measured portions called a K-Cup and K-Cups are available with many different kinds of coffee, tea, or cocoa.
The Keurig Special Edition B60 also includes a generous 48 oz. removable water reservoir and gives you a choice of 3 different cup sizes, including a 9.25 ounce serving for a travel cup.
Want more control? New temperature control feature allows you to choose the standard 192-degree Fahrenheit brew temperature, or a cooler 187 degrees giving you full control over temperature and brewing time.
There’s a DeScale indicator for long brewer life, and a removable 48-oz. water reservoir. Finally, the Keurig B60 is equipped with a removable stainless steel drip tray and chrome handle and faceplate.
There you have the features and product description from the manufacturer. Now, I’ll tell you why I prefer the Keurig B60 to all other K Cup Coffeemakers -
- Removable 48-oz. water reservoir – This feature is not available on the smaller units and some of the competitors’ models. On the units I tried without the removable reservoir, I had to bring water from my sink and pour it into the maker. So what’s the big deal about that? Well, I have limited counter space in my kitchen and my coffee maker sits back in a corner. I had to be a contortionist to get the water into the reservoir without spilling half of it onto the counter. With the B60, I can take the reservoir to the sink to fill it without any mess. The 48-oz. reservoir also allows you to make multiple cups of coffee without having to refill everytime.
- 3 different brewing sizes – 5.25, 7.25, and 9.25oz. 3 different sizes of coffee – just like Starbucks! You can even fill a travel mug! “Nuff said!
- Variable water temperature – brew at 192 or 187 degrees. You might not think 5 degrees makes that much difference, but when I’m having a large cup of coffee, I like it to still be hot when I get to the last few sips. Conversely, if I’m running late for work, I want to be able to drink my coffee fast without burning my tongue.
- Durability – The B60 is the sturdiest of the lot. Some of the other machines are all plastic, and thin plastic at that. You wonder, when the water gets hot, will the machine melt?!
- Appearance – This is not your everday coffeemaker, so you don’t want it to look like everyone else’s Mr. Crappy machine. Shiny black with lots of chrome! Spaceage! The display and water reservoir are both lit with beautiful blue LEDs to really add to the classic image.
- Preset Timer – This timer allows you to have your B60 already warmed up and ready to go the minute your cute little toes hit the floor in the morning. You can be having your first cup of hot, fresh brewed coffee in less than a minute!
- Variety of Coffees Available – Because Keurig was smart enough to also provide the Perfect Pod Holster and the My K Cup Reusable Coffee Filter, you’re able to use just about any coffee pod, from any manufacturer. And you can even make your own pods with your own favorite coffee blends.
- Easy to clean – Because of it’s rounded design, there are no little corners or nooks and crannies that make it impossible to keep clean. Removable water reservoir and drip tray, too. As for the mechanism itself, just pop out the K Cup and toss it in the trash.
- Always Ready – Because the B60 is always on, and thanks to the large water reservoir, you can make multiple cups of coffee without having to wait for the warm-up like you do on other machines.
Now A Word About
The Other Guys
Tassimo
Tassimo was probably the closest competitor as far as operation and taste went. Easy to use, just drop in a packet and brew, but a little messy because of the way the water is forced through the coffee. It splashed onto the counter a little. No biggie, but…
The coffee choices just aren’t there like they are with the Keurig. No adapters available to allow you to use other brands of coffee and they don’t have as large a selection of their own coffees available. The taste was fine, but…
Coffee size selection – small, medium and large. But not “quite” small, medium and large. Again, no biggie, but…
When you start looking at all the small annoyances with the Tassimo machine, and start adding them up, you get a little aggrevated that you didn’t just go ahead and spend your hard earned money on the Keurig in the first place. Buyer’s Remorse here, folks.
Senseo
Senseo is another major competitor, so let’s take a look at a few of their stats:
Overall, ease of use is just as great as the Keurig. However, their coffee pods are made of paper and difficult to get out of the machine after use. So you usually end up with a mess on your hands. With the Keurig, pop the little plastic pod into the machine, brew, and pop it back out. No muss, no fuss.
Only 2 cup size options – ***sigh****
Coffee quality – very poor. This made very weak coffee and I felt like I was back to my old drip coffee maker again!
Mars Flavia
I have no personal experience with Mars Flavia Fusion Deluxe Drink Stations, except a friend was once a sales person for the office service version of the machine, which seems to be their main focus. She thought they were great, but then she was selling them. The cost of a Mars Flavia home machine appears to be comparable to the Keurig, but there are only two customer reviews on Amazon.com, both five stars, and the selection of coffee and tea seems very limited.
So, there you have it. My reasons for choosing the Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System!
